<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Do you ever have the feeling that you are meant for something great? Ever wake up and think, “How can I change the world?” Lately I have been having these feelings. Actually, I have been feeling this way for quite a while now. Don’t get me wrong, being home and taking care of my family is EXTREMELY fulfilling. But I know that things don’t happen by chance. There is a reason that at THIS point in my life, I was given the opportunity to stay at home. There is a reason that everything worked out so perfectly. And maybe, that’s it. Maybe being home taking care of the family is what I am supposed to do right now. But, what if it’s not. What if being able to focus on my family is just the icing on the cake?

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">When I started to write on my little blog, it was meant to be an outlet. Something to do so that I didn’t go insane being at home. A little hobby so that I felt that I wouldn't lose myself. Truth is, I was scared that I would be lost in this world. My identity would fade away. And I would only be known by my kids and husband. But since I like to go off on a tangent and tend to completely go left, let me bring it back to what I really want to talk about. Which is...hmmm, I don’t know exactly. I know I want to make a difference. That's basically it. But make a difference how? Make a difference to whom? What am I meant to do? What are my passions? When I started the blog, the whole idea of perhaps becoming a well known blogger was super enticing. The idea of gaining internet popularity was kind of cool. I have been pretty shy my entire life, so this gave me a little something to work towards. How cool would it be to be known for blogging. How great would it be to have thousands of followers who care about what I say and look to me for inspiration. Or maybe I can reach people some other way. I mean the whole point of all of this is to touch people. To change people’s lives. But before I figure out how I can accomplish this, I have to figure out what my gift is. Haha. It sounds a lot funnier now that I actually say, I meant WRITE, it out. I know it sounds silly. And I kind of feel stupid for even pondering this. But, what is my gift? What am I good at. No, not just good. What am I GREAT at? What makes me special. What makes me unique?

Maybe the problem is that I am scared to take the leap. Putting yourself out there is a scary thing. Being completely honest about your fears, dreams, doubts. There is so many things you can accomplish if you just went for it. Without being scared of failing or making mistakes along the way. I mean, don’t they say that with great power comes great responsibility? Oh wait, that’s what Uncle Ben tells Spider Man (yes, I am a huge nerd at heart). The saying I am thinking of is…”To learn to succeed, you must first learn to fail” -Michael Jordan

I mean, seriously. I am 32 years old and I still haven’t really figured it out. Or where I want to go. I just know that I want to be great. I want to make a difference. I want to help people. I want to leave a legacy. Yes. I want to be remembered. I want my children to be proud of me and what I have done. I want to leave a mark on this world. I have so many goals. So many things I want to accomplish. The question now is...Where do I begin?
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.6667px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.6667px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">How about I start off with achieving some mental clarity? Yes, that sounds like a good start. Off I go to meditate...On second thought, maybe I will leave the meditation for tonight, AFTER the kids go to bed :-). Wish me luck!

Hey guys! How has life been treating ya? I can't believe how long it has been since I have been on here. Life seems to be going a hundred miles a minute. Seriously. Little man has been getting so big. He will be 2 in December! The girls have been doing great in school. With so much going on at the spa (oh yeah! I forgot to tell you. I have been working part-time/on-call) and throw in my home-based business I guess you can say things around here have been anything BUT Zen. But it's all good. I really have been blessed.

There have been tons of changes going on with people close to me. Some good. Some not so great. But hey, the Lord wouldn't throw anything your way that you couldn't handle right? So let me give you a little scenario so you can understand what I mean by "tons of changes"...

Picture this; You just finished giving birth to a beautiful, healthy baby. You and your husband are excited and feel so blessed for this wonderful addition to your family. You figure, this time around will be like any other. Heck! It's your 4th child, so you guys are pros, right? You've seen it all. You've experienced it all. Bring it on!

Days go by. Months go by. Nursing your baby is going great. Except, you begin to feel a lump forming on one of your breasts. You brush it off as a clogged duct because, well, stuff like that happens when you nurse. Only, the lump doesn't seem to be going away.

You decide to talk to your OB about it. He isn't concerned because you are young, healthy and have no family history of anything that may raise concern. But, just as a precaution, you are sent to get an ultrasound, then a biopsy. OUCH!

A few weeks ago I spoke to my cousin up North. This is actually her story. You see, she has no family history of cancer. She is only 34. She doesn't smoke. She doesn't live an unhealthy lifestyle. She is just a normal, dedicated mother and wife. According to her doctor, what MAY have caused the the cancer were her pregnancy hormones. Paired with nursing, this helped push the cancer along. Because of all the hormonal changes, her immune system was not strong enough for the fight. So here she is. Mother of 4, fighting Breast Cancer.

It's crazy how one minute, you think you have everything under control. Then, suddenly, someone pulls the rug from under you. How do you cope? How do you continue to be the strong woman that you have always been? The first thing that ran through her mind were her children. The baby was only 9 months old. Now she is finally learning how to let go. Let go of all control and let people help. Which is something that a lot of us can identify with.

Finding out that she has cancer has been very eye opening. I was in complete disbelief. She is so young. The brutal, honest truth is that Cancer can strike anyone. It doesn't matter how old you are. What your ethnicity is. Male. Female. My cousin wanted her story told so that people could be made aware that you don't have to be 50+ to get screened. Unfortunately, many insurance companies do not urge you to get checked until you are 40-50 years of age. Hopefully her story will inspire you to take control and be proactive.

This past weekend, she and her family participated in the American Cancer Society: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. She now has a story to tell and her strength, bravery and positive attitude will get her through this. Honestly, I really struggled with how to write her story. I wanted to make sure that I helped her spread awareness by writing some epic piece. But then I realized, this doesn't have to be some Nobel Piece Prize winning entry.

Hearing and writing her story made me remember that our time on this wonderful earth is not promised to us. We have to be grateful for every waking moment we have. Grateful for each and every person that touches our lives in some way. Don't get so engulfed in work, chores, errands, social media and anything else that takes your attention away from what is really important. Stop trying to be perfect or better than anyone else. Just be you and enjoy every minute of it. Focus on what is truly important to you and follow your dreams. Life is a blessing. It won't always be perfect, but it will ALWAYS be precious. Life is not quite Zen, but we can all work on it.

I just realized that it has been about a month since I have written anything. There have been tons of things going on. Starting my own business, little man has become super active (I'm serious. It's unbelievable) and the girls have needed so much of our attention. It has all been physically and emotionally draining. But here I am.

As a result of all the excitement, I have really been slacking with all my health and beauty regimens. Recently I was fortunate enough to receive an Exfoliating Body Mitt from the ebody Spa Collection.

This couldn't have come at a better time if you ask me. Exfoliating is one thing that I try to make sure I do on a regular basis (at least once a week) because it yields some excellent benefits. It improves skin texture, detoxifies skin, brightens your complexion, reveals healthy skin, and helps prevent breakouts. And these are only a few reasons why you should exfoliate regularly.

As we get older, our skins ability to shed dead skins cells slows down, so exfoliating really helps your skin look younger. Enter the Exfoliating Body Mitt by ecloth. When I opened the package and felt the cloth, it is actually very soft. It comes with a convenient little thumb hole to provide extra grip. So it was time to put it to the test and get to the scrubbing.

As I scrubbed my arms, stomach, and legs, the Body Mitt exfoliated very gently. It's microfibers were not rough on the skin and left my body feeling smooth and squeaky clean. I'd say the Exfoliating Body Mitt did exactly what it set out to do. I know some people use a terry cloth wash rag, but I find it too rough. The Exfoliating Body Mitt had just the right amount of abrasiveness to get the job done without being too harsh for my body.

The best part about using the ecloth product is that it is reusable and free of any harmful chemicals. So for those of you that have sensitive skin or any other skin issues, this product is perfect. The gentle fibers scrub away dead skin cells and reveal fresh looking skin all without the harshness of a tough fiber or nasty chemicals that can be found on most handheld plastic exfoliators. All you have to do is add water and a drop of your favorite soap and you can experience smooth, youthful looking skin in no time. The entire ebody Spa Collection is pretty amazing. I know I have mentioned how important exfoliating is for your face. Well, get this. They also have a Face Cleansing Mitt. So all you need for your nighttime facials are your favorite face wash and the Facial Cleansing Mitt to gently scrub away the dirt and grime of the day.
I have worked ever since I was on my own, and prided myself on being independent. After leaving high school and going into college, I realized the world was a tough place. They really don't prepare you at all during your four years in high school. I was accepted into Pace University and attended for a few months. College was completely different from what I was used to, but I was excited for the change. I was excited to meet new people and most of all I was just excited for the whole experience. That was until I got that first bill. I got the list of books for ONE of my classes. I needed to get at least 2 of the books on the list, so I did what any freshman would do. I went to the bookstore. $115 for one book! Are you freakin' kidding me?!? I thought to myself, how the heck am I supposed to get through these 4 years? Forget that. How the heck was I going to get through this semester? Needless to say, I could not afford college. So I did what any person in my shoes would do. Move out of the state. Ok, that may have been a little extreme. But guess what, my leap of faith paid off. That first year I was on my own in Florida I got a job, learned how to drive, bought a car, enrolled in Massage Therapy school and graduated. How's that for an achievement?

After many, many years of just going through life. You know, ups and downs. I have finally made it to this point. 3 beautiful children and a wonderful husband. We have worked so hard and have finally been blessed with the opportunity for me to stay home. Like I said before, it was a tough decision for me to make. But I am glad I did. Writing on this blog has been so great for me. It gave me a voice I never knew I had. And to make things even sweeter, I actually have readers! People who take time out of their busy day to read what I have to say. That is unbelievable. Interacting with other bloggers is always fun and I have met some amazing people. One of which has nominated yours truly for the Liebster Award.

So I looked up the word "liebster". It turns out that it is a German word that means “favorite” or “beloved”. I am so excited and touched to be nominated and given this award. I hope my blog continues to inspire these feelings and any other positive feelings you can think of.

My nomination came in the form of a Facebook shout out from Sand and Snow...and everywhere in between. Thank you so much. You are awesome!

Accepting the award comes with a few rules. And they are as follows:

Acknowledge the blog that nominated you and display the Liebster Award on your blog.

Answer 11 questions that the blogger gives you

Give 11 random facts about yourself

Nominate 11 new blogs that you think are deserving of the award

Let those bloggers know you have nominated them

Give them 11 questions to answer.

OK, so here are the 11 questions that I was given to answer:

1. Have you always wanted to be a writer?

From a young age I always enjoyed writing poems, but never thought about writing about life

2. What was the kookiest job you've ever had?

It has to be as a restaurant hostess. We had to wear a ridiculous uniform and do an embarrassing dance everyday at 6pm

3. How many days a year do you spend traveling?

We try to go a vacation at least 2 times a year for about 1 week to 2 weeks at a time. Really wish we could travel more though

4. What was your inspiration to write?

Staying at home I saw it was so easy to lose who you are and your sense of individuality. This is my way of leaving a mark in the world and showing people that you can raise a family and not have that be the only thing that defines you.

5. What is your favorite blog post to date?

My favorite post so far is 5 Things I want to Teach my Daughters. Lessons for my Little Man will be coming soon.

6. How do you maintain a balance between writing and home?
I try to find a schedule for myself and do most of my writing at night when Little Man is sleeping.

7. Favorite television program?
Ugh. There are a few. But I will narrow it down to my top 3: The Originals (I'm a sucker for supernatural things. Oh, and Elijah is sexy as hell), Gotham and The Walking Dead

8. Who was your hero growing up?
I didn't have 1 hero. I had 2. My mom and my grandmother. The two most important women in my life (after my little girls of course).

9. Sand or snow?
I know I will probably get a lot of flack for this, but I would have to say SNOW!!!

10. Favorite spot to vacation?
So far I would have to say Jamaica. The island is beautiful and I loved showing my kids where part of their heritage lies. They are half Puerto Rican (me) and half Jamaican (daddy)

11. What's the one recipe you can make with your eyes closed?
My famous Arroz con Gandules (Rice with Pigeon Peas). Come on, every Hispanic woman has to know how to make the staple.

Ok, now for the 11 random fact about me.

I'm also a licensed Massage Therapist

I love to cook. A lot. I consider myself a foodie.

I was born in Brooklyn, NY

I love Halloween. I find it so much fun to dress up, party and love the thrill of being scared.

My husband swears I break the weirdest things because of my "brute strength".

Growing up I always dreamed of being famous

I am 1 inch shy of being declared legally a dwarf (I am 4'11")

I am a huge Super Mario Bros. fan

I prefer villains over heroes because they are more fun.

I can be really shy and hate speaking in public.

I once wrestled in Jell-O (don't ask)

Now, for my 11 blogs that I would like to acknowledge and nominate. They are:

Tinsel Town Mom

Mommy Works A Lot

Mom On The Move

The Innovative Mama

Val Event Gal

Mommy Time 365

Kiddie Matters

Expressions of a Cluttered Mom

Laugh Out Loud Mommy

My Learning Table

Happy and Humble

Again, thank you so much to Sand and Snow...and everywhere in between for nominating me. It is so great to know that people out there are enjoying this old bloggy blog and I am truly honored.

Here are my questions for my blog picks:

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far?

What would your dream job be?

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

What is your dream vacation?

What's your favorite T.V show?

Name one item on your "bucket list"

How do you find ZEN?

What inspires you?

What's the hardest part of blogging?

What is the best thing about you?

What is your favorite quote?

I am busier now, than when I was actually working a traditional job. Seriously. But my busyness is of a different nature. I am now busy with my own projects. And that feels really good. I am finally doing something for ME. It kind of feels like I am a completely different person. Even though I stay at home now with my 3 <strike>pain in the butts</strike> wonderful children, I feel more independent. More determined. But, in the midst of feeling this way, I found myself struggling with how to manage it all. It was all becoming pretty overwhelming.

Back in the day (lol, I say this like I am some old folgie. "back in my old whipper snapper days..." ok, ok, i'll get back to my story now) I used to meditate. I tried to make it a point to sit for at least 10 minutes a day just to get some peace of mind. Get some clarity. Relax. You know, just basically try to be in the moment as much as I could because I knew that it reaped some huge benefits to take that time out for yourself. But I realized that it has been WAY too long since I have done any of that. So I needed to make some time for myself. Sit and meditate.

I suggested my husband do the same too since he has been really busy working on projects. He has been really good about trying to juggle everything, but I could tell he needed a break. It was time. We BOTH needed to take some time out of our busy day and give some much needed attention to ourselves. We needed to do some de-stressing to our minds. And so after I got Little Man to finally go to sleep, my husband and I found a nice comfortable spot on the floor in our room. The nice Tibetan relaxation music was playing in the background, and we meditated for about 20 minutes. I am sure my husband just sat there with his eyes closed and took a mini nap. It's ok though. This time was for US. To do whatever it was that our body/mind/spirit needed. I focused on good intentions. In my mind I repeated the words: peace, trust, integrity, respect, gratitude.

These are the five principles of Reiki. So when I meditate, I try to repeat these words in my mind along with my affirmation. I have never really shared this with anyone until now. Maybe this is something you need. Maybe there is a reason why I felt so moved this morning (3am) as to write this and share. Whatever it is, take it and be grateful that it was given to you.

Here is my affirmation:

Just for today I will not be angry. I will have peace in my life.

Just for today I will not worry. I will have trust in myself and in HIM*.

Just for today I will be honest and have integrity in all that I do.

Just for today I will be compassionate to myself and others and respect every living thing.

Just for today I will be humble and grateful for all of my blessings.

*who HIM is, is completely up to you and your beliefs

Taking that time out to recharge my mind and spirit was so helpful. It helped me focus on what needed to be done. It gave me the clarity that I needed to really figure out how to go forward with my projects. It gave me a sense of peace, which is always a great thing.

Today I feel determined. I have all these ideas rushing through my head. I am sure that is why I can't sleep (that, and the cup of coffee I was craving late in the day. Don't judge me). It's like I have opened up the flood gates. I am ready to tackle whatever it is that is presented to me.

So, this is what I do to bring me back to my "center". Sometimes you need to clear your mind to actually see what needs to be done. Some days will be hectic. Some days will be calm. The important thing is that I take that time for myself to figure things out. To make sense of everything. It's a work in progress. My life is not quite ZEN...but I'm working on it.

Oh, and feel free to use my affirmation and tweak it if you need to. Let me know how you use it in your day to day. What do you do get clarity?
We, as parents, strive to raise our children to be respectful, intelligent, loving and kind. I am sure we can add 100+ more things to that list, but today we are going to focus on the "kind" part.

Many people are so busy going through their day to day in their hectic lives that they forget to pay attention to their surroundings. Children see how their parents interact with one another and people they come in contact with everyday. Because our children are living sponges, it is so important that we saturate them with positivity and good morals. One thing that I try to teach my children is the importance of how you treat others and the impact your behavior can have. Previously, I wrote about Paying it Forward and how wonderful it can be to perform random acts of kindness. Doing something nice for someone can affect not only their lives, but yours as well. Let's show our kids that being kind to one another and having compassion is contagious. Just imagine the kind of world we can live in if everyone taught compassion.

Any act of kindness, no matter how big or how small, will have an impact. Here is a list of some random acts of kindness you can do with your children or they can do on their own:

Hold the door open for someone

Write a "Thank You" note and put it in the mailbox for the mailman (or lady)

Give your grandparent a call and tell them about your day

Donate outgrown clothes or toys

Make friends with the new kid at school

Bake a batch of cookies or cupcakes for the neighbor or a family member

Make "Get Well Soon" cards and hand them out at your local hospital

Bring a meal to a family in need

Leave a nice note in a library book

Volunteer at your local church or animal shelter

Bring an apple for your teacher

Put a dollar behind a childrens toy at the store

Give someone a compliment

Help your little brother or sister with their homework

Help your mom with the dishes

Do your chores without being asked

Write a nice letter to someone telling them how special they are

Leave chalk messages on the sidewalk

Help someone load groceries into their car

Donate extra school supplies to you classroom

I am sure this list can go on and on. Sit with your child and see what fun and creative things they can come up with. They may just surprise you. Children learn what they see. Let them see the power of kindness. Let's help them make the world a better place.
I have had so much going on that I had let a lot of things slip by because I just simply did not feel like dealing with it. But it is time I get on it. It is time I focus on the important stuff. Not to say that the other things I have been preoccupied with were not important. But I feel like I have been trying to focus on 50 million things at once. As a result, things that I held at the top of my priority list have been pushed to the side. But really, no more. In order for me to be successful in these other endeavors, I need to master, or at least fix, what I had started from the very beginning,

The main reason why I decided to stay home was so that I would be able to fully focus on my family and home. That is what my husband and I felt was most important. So, for this week I decided that I would focus on the house. Actually, let's make that the next two weeks (just in case I encounter any "bumps" along the way). So for the next two weeks I will be spring cleaning our home. I mean really go all out and clean EVERYTHING (or at least that is what the goal will be).

There have been too many times I have put off for tomorrow, what could have been done today. So no more. I will begin my spring cleaning today. I think once that is done, I will have a new sense of clarity. This will really help me focus on things that really need my attention. I know I have mentioned it before, but I am a new Jamberry consultant. So in order for my business to grow, I really need to set goals for myself and really create a plan of action. I always find that it is better and easier to make these types of plans/decisions when you have a clear mind. So by me doing a little (or a lot) of spring cleaning, it will help me get that much closer to my goals.

First things first; Figure out a plan of attack! I am going to start in my living room. It's the room you see first when you come in. So this needs to be first on my to-do list. Hopefully Little man will be on board with my plans and actually let me do some cleaning.

But so far it doesn't look like we are on the same page. Wish me luck.

Have you ever done a spring cleaning to your home? What are some tips you may have?

Your face is, normally, the first thing people see. So why wouldn't you give it the attention it deserves? Those of you who know me, know that I have not had a good nights sleep since around my third month of my pregnancy with Little Man. And now that he is a busy 1 year old, the whole sleeping situation has not gotten better. I STILL do not get a good nights sleep. As a result, I often sport sleepy eyes with a little bit of dark circles. I want to get that refreshed look back.

I have seen a ton of things on the market that claim to battle the dark circles and bags under your eyes, but never really thought to actually purchase one. Recently I was given the opportunity to try out the Elite Serum Rx eye cream.

Created in a facility in Florida, Elite Serum Rx is an alternative to Botox or collagen injections. It's suppose to reduce wrinkles around the eyes and dark circles. The applicator is pretty scary looking. Shaped to look like a syringe the clear cream is dispensed from the point, which makes this much more pleasant than actually getting Botox injections.

According to its makers, Elite Serum RX will improve your eye appearance by:

Reducing puffiness under the eyes

Reducing the appearance of dark under eye circles

Minimizing fine lines, crow’s feet and wrinkles around the eyes

Improving the tone and firmness of skin around the eyes

Restoring skin elasticity around the eyes

Bringing about a more youthful appearance

In addition to some pharmaceutical grade peptides (peptides are chains of amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins in the skin), Elite Serum Rx contains a natural blend of moisturizers as well.

In today's world, appearance is very important. Not only for social or corporate advancement, but it also plays a huge role in how you feel about yourself. Looking like I am losing hours of sleep at night, did not do any good for my self esteem. Needles are NOT an option, so why not try the next best thing?

On my first day of using the product, the area where I applied the cream began to feel a little tingly. I wasn't sure what to expect. But I was hopeful. Throughout the day the area under and on the side of my eyes itched. The itching went on for a good part of the day. It had me a bit worried, but there was no redness and I kept an eye (no pun intended, hehe) on it.

You probably can't tell, but my eyes felt very droopy and heavy. I was sooooo sleepy. Little man had me up all night and I just felt beat. There were bags under my eyes, and I was starting to feel not so attractive. Needless to say I was eager to see if there would be any change.

The rest of the days I applied the cream in the morning, then again at night after washing my face. After the first day of itching, I was kind of nervous to keep going with it. But I was very happy to see that the itching had stopped. While I used the product I did not feel any of the sensations that I did the first day.

Using the Elite Serum Rx was very easy. All I had to do was push out a small amount of cream onto my finger and apply it to the under eye area and on the sides of the eyes. After a few minutes it was dry, so I could go about my day as normal. I don't use makeup regularly, but when I did, there was no problem. I did this for 8 days and here are my results:

Even though there isn't a huge difference, you can notice that my eyes do look a little brighter and the skin looks a tad bit tighter. Even on those really sleepy days, I was able to get dressed and look fresh every day. So in my book, Elite Serum Rx did exactly what it set out to do, for the most part. I recommend you give it a try. Interested in Elite Serum Rx? Check out their site and see how can order your unit today.
Night time is the perfect opportunity to give your face, or any problems areas you may have, some extra love.

Glowing skin is often the feature sought out most by women. A good night time regimen, along with a healthy diet, is key to achieving just that. During the day, our skin is exposed to some nasty stuff. We deal with harsh winds, dirt, toxins, damaging sun rays, etc. Throw in makeup to the mix, and you have a disaster waiting to happen. All that build up needs to be clean and cleared before getting your zzz's. Making sure you go to bed with a clean face helps you battle clogged pores, breakouts and dull skin. Washing your face is a must. Ok, I get it. Believe me, I do. Washing your face before you go to bed is probably the last thing on your mind after a long, hard, stressful day. But that is exactly the reason why you need to make sure you do this. Because your long, hard and stressful day deserves a little pampering at the end of it. Trust me. You'll be glad you decided to take those extra five minutes to do something for you and your skin.

So, let's get started with the obvious, clean your skin. You want to get the type of cleanser that is right for your skin type. Got normal skin? Look for a cleanser that contains hydroxy acids, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. Many dermatologist recommend Cetaphil because it is gentle. When my oldest was having issues with her skin, Cetaphil is what helped her the most. If you have oily skin, try to stay away from anything that contains oil, obviously, along with fragrance. Try and grab something that contains salicylic acid. Oil free Acne washes and Cetaphil also work great for you. Dry skin, look for moisturizing cleansers. You can find a variety of skin care products at your local drug store. So just take the time out and get something that is made specially for your skin type. It's your face, so don't just grab anything.

Next on the list, exfoliate! This removes all that nasty stuff that the cleanser didn't get rid of. Come on. You didn't think washing alone did the trick did you? Don' have a fancy cream exfoliator? Not a problem. Just grab a clean, soft wash cloth. Make sure you don't use it for any other part of the body. Use that with your cleanser and you , my friend, just killed two birds with one stone. Exfoliating removes oils, dirt, sweat and dead skin cells.

I love this. It is very gentle and not too abrasive

Ok, Last step, moisturize. You just washed and scrubbed away all the essential oils and natural moisturization your skin needs. So we are going to put back all the good stuff that keeps your skin supple and young looking. Again, make sure you are getting the moisturizer that is meant for your skin type. If you have an eye cream that you like to use, now would be a good time to apply it. Currently I am in the process of reviewing the Elite Serum RX, which is said to work wonders for the under-eye area. So be on the lookout for that in the near future.

Review coming soon...

And now you are ready to go to sleep. Doesn't you skin feel refreshed? It is always nice to pamper yourself. Why not do something that you are really going to benefit from in the long run? Doing this every night (or as often as you can remember) can really change how your face looks and feel. So get ready to say hello to a more radiant, younger looking you!

One thing that I wish I would spend more time on are my nails. Once in a blue moon I go out and treat myself to a nice manicure. Having freshly painted nails is one way to really feel pulled together, fresh and on point. Just because I am home with little man and spend the majority of my day in sweat pants doesn't mean I can't feel sexy, right? The only problem is I hate to spend that money. So I really hesitate to actually go out and get my nails done.

About a month ago I stumbled upon something that caught my eye. I saw pictures of trendy nails and loads of designs that can be applied to your nail. I really wasn't sure what the whole idea was, so I took a chance and booked an online Facebook party for my friends and family. I am so glad I did. It was a blast. Because I hosted the party I was able to get a ton of free product. The company is called Jamberry Nails and they are great. The nail wraps are easy to apply and last a long time. So you get that manicured look without having to spend all that money every week or so. The best part about it is that I don't have to sit around waiting for my nails to dry while the kids are tearing the house down. These wraps are free of any harsh chemicals, so I can even use them on my little divas. They love getting their nails done too, so this eliminates the mess and worry that they might get nail polish chips in their mouths.
My little firecracker turned 6 years old and she wasn't going to let any of us forget it. The morning of her birthday I did a silly little birthday dance for her. Of course she thought I was crazy. But I didn't care. I love her so much that I would dance to the moon and back for her if I had to. Her big sister was so sweet that she wrote her a birthday poem highlighting how old her little sister was getting. We all thought it was sweet. But not the Diva. She couldn't believe that her sister was calling her old, hahaha. I had to go see what all the commotion was about because all I could hear was Brookey telling Lexy "How dare you call me old. I cannot believe what you just said. I AM NOT old. This is ridiculous!". You see why I had to assess the situation? Once my oldest explained to me what was going on, because she was too in shock to do anything else, I couldn't help but crack up. And then my little firecracker repeated that she could not believe she was being called old. Honey, if you had any idea how many times you will be called old once you have kids. I have been called "ancient", and I am ONLY 31 years old. She is in for a rude awakening, haha.

Since I have already made a family rule about birthdays (Ages 1-5, they get a party. Ages 6-9 we go out and celebrate. On their 10th birthday, they get to choose if they want a party or celebrate in another way. The rest we will play by ear.) my little firecracker decided she wanted to celebrate her 6th birthday at Olive Garden. I was fine with that. I didn't have to cook so it was a win for me. Of course she still got her birthday song, Olive Garden style.
Since the only thing Brookey wanted to do for her birthday was go to Disney, we did just that (thank goodness for these annual passes). Friday after school we got ready and headed to Magic Kingdom. Getting the Fast Passes days in advance makes things so much easier. Fast Passes are "reservations" for rides. You pick the ride you will want to go on and are given a time slot in which you can arrive to bypass the long line. Brookey had so much fun. Because the weather was a lot chillier than we anticipated, actually I don't think anyone thought it was going to be that cold, there were certain parts of the park that were not busy. Buzz Lightyear is always a family favorite. And with Daddy's help, Brookey was able to achieve "Galactic Hero" status by getting the highest score possible.
The Haunted Mansion ride is such a classic and she loves it. We were able to get on The Barnestormer twice. This little rollercoaster was perfect for her. It had just the right amount of intensity for a 6 year old. She though she was living dangerously. Brookey had a great time at Magic Kingdom.
Next item on her birthday weekend...Smile Mile Kids Run. Saturday morning we all woke up early because the girls had a track meet. They each ran a mile with their age group. We were so proud of the girls. They gave it their all and they did great. They were so proud of themselves and I couldn't help but shed a couple of tears (shhh, no one knows) because I was just so very very proud of them. Huge shout out to all the participants this year. Those kids did a wonderful job.
After their run, we were headed off to Part Two of our Disney World adventure. I know, we must be crazy right? This time we decided to do Epcot since I figured it would be a little more laid back after a long morning. Again, Fast Passes made the day go by so much easier. We were even able to get a fast pass for Soaring, which is almost always a 60+ minute wait time. Epcot has the World Showcase which is a lot of fun. The good thing about this is that they have these little stations called "Kidcot Fun Stops" in every country. So your little one can create a personalized souvenir and collect stamps from any or all the World Showcase craft stations. So it gives them something to do while you are sampling a drink or food from each country.
All in all it was a great weekend. Having the Disney annual pass makes things so much easier. If you are a regular at the parks and do not own a pass, I highly recommend you get one. It is really worth the money. For those of you who are planning a trip to Disney World, it is a great idea to go online once you have your tickets and secure your fast passes for the rides you absolutely want to hit. That way you won't have to spend 75% of your day waiting in lines. Remember, stay hydrated in the heat. Take advantage of the baby care centers. They make changing and feeding your infant so much easier. Visiting Disney World is about making magical memories, and I think we all did just that.
Doing Random Acts of KindnessHow many of you have heard of the phrase "Paying it Forward"? Paying it forward is basically a random act of kindness. It's all about being selfless and having compassion. Doing random acts of kindness is about making a difference in the world. It is so easy to dismiss this idea because you don't think that you can make a difference. You don't think that one random act can have an impact. You couldn't be more wrong. Ok, it may be a little far fetched to think that you can change the world, but you can do something to make it a little bit better. One person can make a difference. Why not let that person be you?

Recently a friend of mine experienced this very thing. He was lucky enough to be on the receiving end. But he didn't let it stop there. Being the recipient of a random act of kindness inspired him to do the same for someone else. You see, this becomes a chain reaction. Can you imagine the impact you will have just by paying it forward? Can you imagine a world where people will think of others before themselves? Kindness is contagious. So let's start the epidemic.

Here are a few ways you can Pay It Forward:

Buy a stranger a cup of coffee.

Pay the grocery bill for the person in front of you at the checkout line.

Buy a housewarming gift for new neighbors.

Let someone with few items cut in front of you at the checkout line.

Babysit for a couple who are too busy to get a night out.

Send a nice written letter to someone.

Volunteer at a charity event, hospital, shelter, school.

Pay the toll for the car behind you.

Buy donuts for the office.

Compliment someone you don't know.

Open the door for a stranger.

Be courteous to public service workers (bus drivers, sanitation workers, mailman, etc.). Say "good morning" "Thank you".

Tell your significant other that they look especially beautiful or handsome today.

(you can do this with your kids) Leave a box of cookies and a "thank you" note for the mailman.

Make a donation to the food pantry.

Smile and say hello to everyone you see today.

This list can go on and on. You don't have to be rich in order to give back to the world. All you need is a good heart and a passion for people and spreading love and kindness. You never know who's day you are making, or who was at the end of their rope until you came along. Doing just one small thing will have such an impact on you and others. It might just bring you one step closer to finding your ZEN.

Ok, so I just realized that March is National Nutrition Month. As someone that has a goal of being healthier and on a continuous journey of Loving the Skin I Am In, I think this would be a great opportunity for me to get one step closer to finding my ZEN. This years theme for National Nutrition Month is "Bite Into A Healthy Lifestyle". Now, if you know me, you also know that I absolutely LOVE to cook. I love to find different recipes to try out and creating different dishes with cultural influences. So this years theme is right up my alley. I am going to do my best this month to provide you with different healthy recipes to help you "Bite Into A Healthy Lifestyle".

Today I have for you a Greek Style Chicken Flat Bread Sandwich. This dish I created on my own and I hope you enjoy.

Ingredients:

4 Chicken Breast

4 Flat Bread Circles (I used Tofouyan Whole Wheat Flat Bread)

Greek Marinade (recipe below)

1/4 Red Onion

1/2 Cucumber

1/2 Tomato

Fresh Parsley

Hummus (Freshly made or store bought)

For the Marinade:

1/4 cup Lemon Juice

1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2-3 cloves crushed garlic

1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce

1 tbsp Oregano

Salt and Pepper

*Measurements are approximations. Adjust according to your taste*

Directions:

Combine all marinade ingredients and set to the side. Thoroughly clean chicken breast and place in plastic Ziploc bag or bowl. Pour marinade over chicken and place in fridge for 1-2 hours (this can also be done the night before).

While chicken marinates, chop the red onion, cucumber and tomato into small cubes. Toss in freshly chopped parsley and mix. Add a splash of olive oil, lemon juice and a few dashes of Worcestershire Sauce and mix thoroughly. Salt and pepper to taste. Place in the fridge so that the flavors meld.

Take the chicken out the fridge and place in a baking dish with and bake at 350 degrees for 1.5 hours or until juices run clear. I like to add some of the marinade, especially crushed garlic, to the chicken as it bakes to add to the juiciness. Once chicken is cooked through, remove from oven and let stand for a moment then shred. If chicken appears too dry then add some of drippings from the baking dish. Take 4 pieces of flat bread and place in oven for a minute to warm through. Lay out 1 flat bread and spread about 1.5 tbsp of hummus on half of the bread. Divide chicken into 4 portions and pile one portion onto spread hummus and top with chilled diced salad. Fold over other side of flat bread and enjoy. You can also add a tzatziki dipping sauce on the side.

The sandwich is pretty filling, so you may want to eat only half with a side Greek salad. Let me know what you think.

Days fly by, weeks, months, years. You find yourself looking around, asking yourself "what the heck happened". After years of hard work, raising a family and taking care of others, you forget about living. Enjoying everything life has to offer. Nowadays many of us seem so engulfed in our careers and/or jobs. We tend to make work a priority, and put everything else on the back burner. Sacrificing the pursuit of our goals and enjoying life has become the norm.

What day is it?"

It's today," squeaked Piglet.

My favorite day," said Pooh.”

― A.A. Milne

I always try to live my days being grateful for everything. From the first breath I take when I wake up to the pillow I lay my head on at night. Taking the time out to acknowledge all the things I am grateful for helps me become mindful. In times of stress, or when I find myself starting to really let the little things bother me, I try to stop. Breathe, and just simply live in the moment.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

― Eleanor Roosevelt

Living in the moment is probably one of the best practices you can do. It helps the mind achieve a sense of peace. Taking that time out to consciously focus on the here and now has such a calming effect on you. I'm not going to lie. Sometimes I don't always practice what I preach, and I tend to get irritated with things I see or hear. Apparently, we have some ridiculous people in the world, who'd a thunk. But, being mindful of what I am currently doing at the moment allows me to fully enjoy every minute of what I am doing. And that alone brings me peace.

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Living in the moment is described as realizing the beauty in every moment, every activity. Going through life I see a lot of people focusing on what is going wrong, what they didn't or couldn't have, their luck is just the worst ever, and so on. I honestly believe that you bring in what you put out. If you are in a constant state of negativity, then guess what kind of energies you are going to attract into you life.

“You can't go back to how things were. How you thought they were. All you really have is...now.”

― Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why

Being mindful, or living in the moment, reduces stress, lowers blood pressure and can help boost your immune system. By spending a few moments a day just focusing on living in the moment you can even reduce the risk of heart disease. Making this an everyday practice makes you a happier person, and this can bring you closer to finding your ZEN.

“I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.”

― Groucho Marx

Ok, so here are some tips on how to live in the moment.

Tip#1: Loosen up. Stop being so uptight. Shake it out. Let your hair down. Take a deep breathe. Feel the air filling your lungs. Now dance! Yes you read correctly. Dance like no one is watching. Just do it. Don't think about how silly you look. Don't think about doing the proper steps. Let go of all your inhibitions and just go for it. Trust me, you will feel so invigorated and liberated. You won't be able to help but smile and laugh. And laughter is good for the soul.

Tip#2: Embrace nature. If the weather permits, go outside. Go for a walk. Feel the breeze. Hear the birds chirp. If it's snowing, put on a coat and go outside. Feel the delicate snowflakes landing on your cheek or hands. Feel the snow crush under your boots. Ok, you get the idea. Just go out and be mindful of everything that is going on around you. Listen to the world. Appreciate that you are there to experience it all.

Tip #3: Stop worrying about the future. Instead, focus on the present. The here and now. And while we are on the topic, you can stop dwelling on the past as well. Both these things will prevent you from enjoying this very moment. The past is in the past. You can learn from it, but you can't change it. The future has yet to come. We don't know what it holds, but if you are stressing out about it, chances are that when it is here, you won't enjoy it either. So quit it.

“Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering”
― Ida Scott Taylor

Tip #4: Enjoy your meals. Everyone is always in such a rush that they tend to scarf down their food. Once it is all gone, you are most likely not going to remember a damn thing about what you just ate. Mindless eating can lead to overeating. Instead, enjoy every morsel. Savor every bite. Take the time out to taste the different spices, or appreciate the time and effort it took to prepare such a magnificent dish. With each bite you are nourishing your body, so sit down and give this moment its due respect.

Tip #5: Appreciate the people around you. No matter how annoying they may be, or how negative their energy is, there is a reason they are in your life. Maybe it's so you can learn something from them. Maybe they are there to help you realize that life isn't that bad. Maybe you are there to teach them how to live in the moment. Maybe they will have a huge impact on how you live your day to day. Maybe you will have that same impact on them. For whatever reason, these people were placed into your path. Appreciate the lesson they may unknowingly teach you and when it is time for them to leave, just let them go.

So there you have it. 5 simple tips that I try to go by everyday. I'm not saying it is easy. Sometimes I forget to follow them myself. But I can tell you that when you live life to enjoy every waking moment, you tend to become a bit more optimistic about things. You smile more. You laugh more. People will just want to be around you because they can sense those positive vibes just oozing off of you. So go ahead and give it a try. What have you got to lose? Just remember...

So little man is looking a little better, but he is still fighting this nasty virus that has been kicking our butt. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). Needless to say, we had a pretty busy weekend trying to nurse him back to health. I am so ready for all of this to be over. Two and a half weeks is long enough, but he is a trooper.

I also got a chance to talk to my brother. Since he moved to Pennsylvania I have missed him so much. So getting a chance to talk to him every now and then is always good. He had sent us a few pictures and videos of the snow they've been experiencing up North. Seeing all that winter weather reminds me of when I used go outside with him and throw snowballs with our friends. I can't wait to take the kids up there one winter so they can have a chance to play in the snow and experience the cold weather. But for now, they are enjoying the nice Florida heat. Sunday they were able to go to the annual rodeo with their Auntie. Afterwards they enjoyed the annual fair. I have to say, living in Florida can be painful during the summer, but having warm weather almost all year round sure has its perks.
On a side note, my Facebook Jamberry Party has been doing really well. Everyone who has joined has had a lot of fun with the games, and having the chance to win some free stuff is definitely a plus. Saturday night we had a 80's trivia game and it was intense, haha. Being the 80's baby that I am, I rocked it. But those girls sure gave me a run for my money. All in all, we had a great time. Two more game days to go before the party is over. If you haven't joined a game already and want in on the fun, head over to the Not Quite Zen Jamberry Facebook Party page and click join to get the latest updates. Wednesday will be the final day of the party and the last chance you will have to order through the party page's website. If you are interested in hosting a party yourself, make sure to contact Bethany, The Sweepstakes Diva , to schedule your Facebook party and tell her that Maritza sent you.

Well, that's pretty much sums up our weekend. Nothing crazy. But I am glad little man is starting to get back to his old busy self. Things are almost getting back to normal. We aren't quite there, but we're working on it.
Sometimes I just have to sit back and really process what comes out of her mouth. This is just a fraction of what we have to deal with day in an day out.

Me: "Brooke, get Bryce away from there!"
Brooke: "I'm not his mom!"
Me: "Brooke! Did you just fart on my knee?!"
Brooke: (Giggling) "I'm a little bit gassy"

Me: "Why can't you just stay still?!?"
Brooke: "I am a kid! So I can't stay still!"

Me: "Here you go mami. Put these socks on."
Brooke: "Ok, i'll put them on, but I want you to know this is NOT my style."

Hey everyone. So I am hosting my very first Facebook party and you guys are all invited!!! Recently I partnered up with the Sweepstakes Diva to throw a Jamberry Nails party. The product looks awesome and I love the idea of having pretty nails without worrying about the kids smudging the polish before it dries completely. To be honest, I have not had my nails done in a while because of my hectic schedule. And I cannot bring myself, after a crazy day, to sit down and focus on painting my nails at home. When the kids are put to bed, the only thing I am thinking about is quality time with my hubby and/or hitting the sack for some much needed downtime.

But the fact of the matter is, I am always telling you guys how important it is to take care of yourself. So I really need to practice what I preach. Let's face it, part of feeling good is looking good. If you know you look good and that you took that extra step to do something for YOU, you are gonna feel great about it. This is going to bring you one step closer to maybe finding your ZEN.

So please join me this week on Not Quite Zen's Jamberry Facebook Party, (party is already over) and get your stylish nail wraps. There will be games and giveaways to keep the fun going throughout the week. Feel free to invite your friends and tell them not to forget to click "join" on the page to get all the updates. The more the merrier.

The hubby and I had plans to have a fabulous night out on Friday, but we decided to stay in with our sick children. So I didn't get my lemon drops and a fancy dinner, but I did get a huge bowl of popcorn, rum and coke and a seat on my couch to watch the NBA All-Star game. So, all in all, it was not a bad night.

Valentine's Day is here and while I will agree that it has become such a commercial holiday, I still want to take this time to tell all my peeps out there: I LOVE YA! By the way, we reached over 2000 views! Thanks for reading!!!

Ok, so this week has been a tough one. 2 out of my 3 kids are sick, and the 3rd almost sliced her finger off with SAFETY SCISSORS. Yeah. I can't make this crap up.

It all started Saturday night, which probably ended up being the scariest night of our (my husband and I) lives. Little man went into a Febrile Seizure as we were leaving a birthday party. After a scary ambulance ride to the hospital and hours of being in the emergency room, they were able to bring his 104 degree fever down to 98.8 degrees. Thank The Lord everything turned out ok. But this whole week we have spent watching him to make sure his temperature doesn't go above 102 degrees. So far he has been doing good, with the exception of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Ok, I just named almost the entire week. But really, he is doing a lot better.

My middle child has developed a really bad cough with a fever. So you know she is gonna have to go see the doctor tomorrow. I am hoping it's not Strep Throat, since that has been going around a lot lately. She is a trooper though. It is extremely hard to get her to sit still and let her body do what it needs to do.

Now my oldest, She decided she wanted to do some arts and crafts without me knowing. Then all of a sudden I hear her scream and she is hysterical with tears. Blood everywhere. Oh. My. God. I freaked out because I had no idea where the blood was coming from or why there she was bleeding in the first place. So here comes Super Mom and I swoop in to nurse her wound. Meanwhile, my 5 year old is telling her that we are going to have to pour rubbing alcohol on it and the doctor was going to chop it off because it is no good anymore. Really?!? As if my oldest wasn't freaked out enough. So Daddy and I had to do some serious damage control. Next morning, she went to the doctor so that they could patch it up since I didn't know how serious the wound was.

So basically, I would have gone to the pediatrician 3 times this week. Once for each child. They already looked at me crooked when I went the second time this week. I can only imagine the looks I'm gonna get tomorrow. Seriously, my parenting license is going to be revoked.

So this week call me "Dr.Mommy". My office is extremely busy and I have no more room for any appointments.
Even when you thought you have found your soul mate, marriage if f****** hard. I'm not going to into the whole "some days are good and some days are bad". We know that. Everyone knows that. That is to be expected in ANY relationship. Of course there will be ups and downs and loop-de-loops. Nothing in this world is perfect. And that is especially true in marriage.

In 2007 my husband and I decided we were going to take the big plunge. We didn't plan this lavish wedding. We didn't look for a fancy venue. I didn't get an extravagant dress. No invitations were sent out. Heck, even shopping for a ring was a spur of the moment decision. I thought, wow, this is exciting. We were just going to go for it. That morning I woke up and I couldn't wait to get to the courthouse. I mean, who wouldn't be excited? I was about to marry my best friend. We didn't need a huge party. We didn't need a fancy ceremony. All we needed was each other (and a witness of course). In my eyes, it was perfect. In the courthouse waiting area my husband and I had a blast. We joked around, and took silly pictures. It's who we are. I'm not going to lie, it would have been nice to go through the whole wedding thing, but I'm happy we took the simple route.

After all this time together, I learned a few things. Marriage is something that you have to constantly work on. Over time you find yourself losing the spark, or not putting in the effort like you used to before. Being married I have realized some things that are important to me. I sometimes tend to focus on what I can do to make him happy, but what about me? Unfortunately, guys don't think about romancing their woman. Unless you are in the beginning of a relationship, or you were just lucky to have found that rare guy that is into that kind of stuff. Arguments will happen. There will be disagreements. And, of course, you will get mad at each other. Being home now, I look at things a little bit different. I don't have a "How To" list on having a perfect marriage because you know what? My husband and I are not perfect, but I can talk from experience. Some things we are great at, and some things we are still working on. Some of you may agree with what I have to say, and some of you may not, and that is ok. Everyone has their own idea of what makes them happy, or what makes a marriage work. Here are a list of some things I think are important...

Holding hands

When you start dating, you always hold hands. Whether it be while taking a walk, driving, having dinner, or just simply sitting next to one another. Holding hands makes you feel secure. It makes me feel close to you. Even when you are upset with me or I am upset with you, don't stop holding my hand. It symbolizes our bond. We have to make that effort to keep that bond strong. There have been plenty of times when I see an old couple holding hands. I find it so cute and heartwarming to see that after all these years they still want to hold each others hand. I hope that as time passes by, my husband and I still have that connection and will keep on holding each others hand.

Don't bring up the past

This is probably one of the worst things you can do. How can you even think about going forward, if you are stuck in the past? I get it. I may not have been the best person and you were really hurt by it. But if you decided that you want to move forward in the relationship then you have to let go of those hurt feelings. Constantly bringing up the past is such a dirty way to fight. There is nothing that can be done about it. No magic wand that can be waved to undo all the harm that has been done. Don't keep punishing me for my mistakes, and I won't punish you for yours. Harboring feelings of resentment can only drive a deeper wedge between you and the one you love.

Make an effort to look good for one another

Part of what got us into this relationship was our physical attraction to each other. In the beginning I did my best to look good. And I am sure he did the same for me. So even when we have been together for a while, this should still be a priority. Admit it. Everyone wants to be desired. So I want to make sure I give him something to look forward to. For the sake of your happiness, please fix yourself up. Workout. Take a shower. Get your hair done. Wear perfume or cologne. You'd want them to do the same for you, so make an effort to keep their attention. Doing all of this also makes you feel confident, and that's sexy.

Don't point out their weakness

We all have our flaws. No one wants a constant reminder of what they are. This will only create feelings of inadequacy. I want you to bring me up when I am down. I want you to be my pillar of strength and I want to be yours. Be that driving force behind your man or woman. Let them know that through thick and thin, you will be there.

Agree to disagree

There will be those fights where none of you will agree. You are still going to stick to your guns and so will they. That is ok. Who are we if we don't stand up for what we believe in anyway right? So understand that. Learn to let it go. It's ok if he doesn't agree with you or you don't agree with him. Don't let it become something so huge that you two won't be able to see past it.

Don't stop kissing

Kissing is super intimate. I feel it plays a huge part in showing love and desire. Sounds corny, I know. But the fact of the matter is that kissing is another thing that keeps your bond strong. It doesn't have to be a full blown make out session, but giving your man or woman a kiss everyday shows that you still have that connection. It shows me that you could not wait to get home just so you could lay one on me. And that is so important. Even when I am mad at you or you're mad at me, still kiss me. It tells me that things are ok even when we fight.

Don't stop having fun together

Having fun together keeps things exciting. If you stop doing things that make you laugh, make you excited, life will just get boring. Do fun and stupid things together. It gives you things to reminisce about when you guys are old and gray together. And even then, still go out and have a grand old time (yes, pun intended). Make time to go out on dates and not just dinner then rush home to go to bed. I mean really go out. Put an effort into planning an evening together. Do things that he/she likes, even when they are not your type of activity. This speaks volumes to how much you value your time out and together.

Always show appreciation

Even for the little things. I want to know that what I did mattered. I want to know that you are happy to have me around. It's not being needy. I just want to know that you appreciate what I do, just like how I show you that I appreciate everything you do. I'm not asking you to stroke my ego. But think about how you feel when I tell you that something you did was great, or how awesome you are. I want to feel that too.

Have fun with sex (sorry mom)

I apologize if I am getting too personal, but sex should not be a chore. It should not be boring, or mundane. It should not be used as a tool to get what you want. It should be fun. It should be enjoyable. Don't work so much that you don't want to have sex. It is great for your connection, and is a wonderful stress reliever. Not to mention, it makes you feel extremely sexy when you know your man is so turned on by you. So always make time for sex, even if it is just a quickie. It doesn't always have to be a fully orchestrated love scene with rose petals, silk linen and R&B playing in the background (even though that does sound nice). Some of us don't have time for all of that. The important thing is that you don't put your man or woman on the back burner. Doing so can leave them feeling rejected or inadequate.

Support each others dreams

This is so important. Having that person who supports you no matter what is such a phenomenal feeling. It makes me feel like I can conquer the world. Even when I hit a wall, my man is there to help me through it and encourages me to keep on going. Supporting your man/woman is one of the best ways you can show your love for one another.

Don't emotionally distance yourself after a fight

Doing this causes communication to shut down. That doesn't solve anything. A little bit of distance is good, and its ok to walk away when things are getting too heated, but make sure you let him/her know that you still love them. It's not about caving in, or about who "lost" the fight. It's about showing that even though you did have a fight, you guys can overcome anything. Don't be stubborn about it. Sometimes admitting that maybe you were wrong or blew things out of proportion is all that is needed to make things better.

Don't invalidate how I feel

If I am feeling some type of way, then please acknowledge it. Don't chock it up to me being emotionally unstable. If I am feeling hurt or upset, then maybe, just maybe, you had something to do with it. It is unfair for you to be able to express your feelings and have me deal with them if you are not willing to do the same for me. Many times all I need is your understanding (and maybe an apology, but I know that may be asking too much).

So there you have it. Life doesn't come with instructions. Only you know what works for you and your man/woman. Just try to take things one day at a time and communicate as best as you can. My husband and I are still learning how to master it all. But you know what. I don't think you can. Once you think you have it down to a science, everything changes. So just go with the flow and enjoy one another. Do you have any suggestions/tips to add to the list? What are your "rules" of engagement?

Little girls everywhere went crazy over the sisters from Arendelle. Elsa's song "Let It Go" became a huge hit on billboards, while driving parents absolutely mad. I can not tell you how many times I have heard that song since watching the film for the first time with my girls.

Well, this weekend, my family and I were able to celebrate an awesome birthday party where Queen Elsa and Princess Anna made a surprise appearance.

Cleverly held at an ice skating rink, we celebrated my cousins daughters 5th birthday. The kids had a blast. Elsa and Anna did a sing-a-long with the kids, took pictures and the best part of it all was that they even went ice skating. It was a real treat to see the characters on the ice with the kids.

One thing that I heard when I was a young teenager is that the cold keeps you looking young. Not sure if it is true or not, but it is something that kind of stuck with me. So ever since then I would rub an ice cube on my face before going to bed. I know. It sounds crazy right? But I swear it works. My pores are tiny. The skin on my face feels nice and firm, and it makes my skin glow after I am done.

Not getting more than 4-6 hours of sleep at night (yes, little man still gets up in the middle of the night), I try to do what I can to make sure I feel refreshed and keep myself looking radiant. I don't like to spend tons of money on beauty supplies, so using something so simple as ice cubes is right up my alley. Here are several reasons why ICE CUBES should be added to your facial care regimens from Indianbeautyspot.com:

1) Use the ice cube as a makeup primer. Before applying your makeup, prep skin by rubbing an ice cube all over. This keeps the skin fresh and helps your makeup stay on longer. I am no going to lie, the cold ice shocks the crap out of you at first, but just put on your big girl panties, take a deep breath and just do it!!!

2) You can make an ice cube face wash by whisking honey and olive oil together and pouring it in an ice cube tray. After cleansing, massage a frozen cube on your face and neck in a circular motion before going to bed and pat dry. The olive oil will moisturize the skin while the honey will deep clean your pores. If you don't like the thought of leaving honey and oil on your face, then splash some water on your face to take away the excess. Then pat dry.

3) Too many sleepless nights? Help reduce puffy eyes by brewing green tea and freezing in an ice cube tray. Use the cube wrapped in a cloth and place under the eyes to brighten the under eye area.

4) As I mentioned before, ice cubes will help smooth your complexion, ease wrinkles, shrink pores and promote blood circulation. Just quickly rub the cube all over your face for a couple of minutes before going to bed. For younger looking skin, make ice cubes with diluted apple cider vinegar. This can unclog pores by removing oil and bacteria. Antioxidants increase blood flow and clear out toxins.

5) Rubbing an ice cube on eyebrows while tweezing can minimize swelling, redness and pain.

6) Ice cubes can help reduce inflammation, redness and shrink acne. This makes ice cubes great for spot treatment. It is also helpful in reducing the size of acne scars.

7) You can also use them as a sunburn remedy by pouring aloe vera gel in an ice cube tray. Freeze it for instant relief from sunburn sting.

These are just a few ways you can incorporate ice into your beauty regimen. If you find the ice to be way to cold for you to bear, then, by all means, wrap it in a paper towel before applying it to your skin. Also, if you are using the ice directly on your skin, don't leave it on there too long. It can cause frost bite. I know they say "Pain is Beauty", but I don't think this is what they meant.
You think about things you've done and decisions you've made. You start to think about all the things you want to show them, and hope that you do a good job in teaching them how to be the best person they can be.

Having girls nowadays is scary. You see what images are portrayed on television and the type of women the media is glorifying. As a mom, you have to make sure you stay involved in their lives and maintain that close relationship so that they feel comfortable coming to you whenever they need you.

So, as I go through this journey with my beautiful girls there are 5 things I want to make sure they learn:

1) Love your body

It's not about being skinny. It's about being healthy. I want them to understand the importance of taking care of themselves. As women, we are nurturers. We tend to take care of everyone around us and forget about the #1 person we should be taking care of. OURSELVES. Emotional, spiritual and mental health is just as important as physical health. So always make sure you take care of YOU.

2) Always Be Thankful

Every night before going to bed, I thank God for everything. I am so thankful for my home, my family, the fact that they are safe. I am thankful for the bed I sleep in. The dinner we had. The list goes on and on. There is a lot of power in being thankful. Appreciating everything in your life, big and small, makes you realize that you may already be the richest person in the world.

3) Value Your Intelligence and Know Your Worth

Ok. This sounds like it is two different things, but they really go hand in hand. I want you to know that you don't have to follow the crowd. You have your own mind. Take pride in your intelligence and never let anyone make you feel like you are inferior. Make sure you read. Read up on anything and everything. A woman that is beautiful can get peoples attention. But there is no stopping a beautiful and intelligent woman.

4) Become Financially Independent

Financial independence ensures that you will be able to pay your own bills, buy your own clothes, pay for your own food. You shouldn't have to depend on a man to support you. It is a great thing to have a partner that will want to take care of you, but always make sure you got your own. You should always be capable of earning your own living. This makes you a strong and independent woman that can can take of herself.

5) Don't be afraid to follow your dreams

There may be times that you will fail. But don't let that stop you. Use it to fuel your ambition. Following your dreams give you the power to be innovative and inspiring. By being ambitious, you have the power to change the world, make your mark. So go ahead and dream big. It just gives you greater things to aspire to. A woman can make a difference.

I am sure this list can go on, and my husband can add another 5 himself. These are just the tip of the iceberg. Life is a never ending lesson. There WILL be mistakes along the way. But it is so important that we all learn from them. I hope my girls grow up to be confident, intelligent, ambitious, compassionate and spiritual women. I hope that, as parents, my husband and I do our best to steer them in the right direction and give them the guidance that they need to keep going. They were created for a purpose, and we are truly blessed to have them in our lives.
This was one of my guilty pleasures mentioned on my previous post What's Your Guilty Pleasure? Be warned, this has been known to be the cause of some serious addictions. I present to you my...drumroll please...

COCONUT AND DARK CHOCOLATE OATMEAL BAR

Yes, I know. The name is kind of long. But you can change it when you make yours :-).

I love this bar because it is sweet, but not too sweet. Chewy. Coconutty (not even sure if that is a word, so don't bother checking your dictionary). Contains dark chocolate, which I absolutely love. And, above all else, it is healthy (well, somewhat). It contains some super foods like the antioxidant rich dark chocolate and the extremely healthy fat that is Coconut Oil. Not to mention that the main ingredient is oatmeal, which is a healthy grain right? See, so it is not totally bad for you. So just relax, and enjoy one of my guilty pleasures.

Ok, so here is how you make these. You are going to need:

1 cup of Quick Cooking Oats

1/4 cup of Organic Coconut Oil (I got mine from Swanson. It is about $22 for a 54 oz jar)

1/4 cup of Light Brown Sugar (not packed)

A little less than 1/4 cup of Agave Nectar (if you don't have, you can substitute with granulated sugar or any other liquid sweetener you may have on hand)

1/3 cup of Dark Chocolate Chips (this amount can vary depending on how thick you want that chocolate layer to be)

1 tablespoon peanut butter (optional)

Coconut Flakes (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a bowl, mix oatmeal, coconut oil, brown sugar and agave nectar until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Mixed thoroughly

Once you have that ready, line a bread loaf pan with parchment paper. This will help it come out nice and easy. Next, you want to pour the mixture into the pan and spread evenly while pressing down.

Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes. Any longer and it will lose it's chewy texture.

In a glass bowl, melt the chocolate until smooth. Careful not to burn. What I usually do is place it in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time and mix in between heatings. If you don't like to use the microwave, then by all means, the double boiler method can be used as well. It will just take a little longer.

*If you are a peanut butter fan, you can add some to the chocolate and melt. I like to leave mine just the way it is.*

Once your chocolate is nice and smooth, pour it over the oatmeal mixture and spread evenly.

*This is where you can add some coconut flakes to the top. In case you are crazy for coconut and have to have more of it*

Once you are done, let the pan sit somewhere cool. When it reaches room temperature, place it in the fridge until the chocolate hardens. Once the bar is cooled completely, you can pull the parchment paper up and the entire bar will come out. Cut the bar into little rectangles. I usually get about 16 per pan.

This is the finished product. I tried to get creative with my photo shoot. But you get the picture.

I like to enjoy these when I am alone (so my kids won't ask for any. I know, i'm horrible). The chewyness of the oatmeal mixed with the richness of the chocolate with a hint of coconut is so satisfying. I can't stop at just one little piece.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. Tell me what you think.
